Yavuz Baydar
Yavuz Baydar is a senior journalist, editor, podcaster and analyst in Turkish and international media. He was formerly the editor-in-chief of Ahval News, a trilingual independent online news site and podcasts on Turkey. His expertise covers domestic politics, international relations, human rights and media matters. His articles have been published by the Guardian, New York Times, Le Monde, El Pais, Die Süddeutsche Zeitung, FAZ, and Svenska Dagbladet. Turkey’s first independent news ombudsman between 1999-2013, was among the co-founders of the independent media platform P24 to monitor the state of journalism in Turkey. Baydar served as the president of the International Organisation of News Ombudsmen (ONO). He worked for the Swedish public broadcaster (SR/SVT) and the BBC World Service, and in major Turkish newspapers, as editor. Baydar is the author of the book “Die Hoffnung stirbt am Bosporus - Wie Türkei Freiheit und Demokraties verspielt” (“Hope dies at Bosporus - How Turkey squandered Freedom and Democracy.”)
